Introduction
Welcome to Walk in Love’s (WIL) child sponsorship program! The WIL ‘Believe in Me’ programs are designed to help lift people out of desperate poverty in Arusha, Tanzania. The aim of this program is to give severely deprived children a head start in life. Child sponsors are updated with the development of their child and will see the benefit that your monetary gift has given him or her by providing ‘a better chance.’
Which children need sponsoring?
The Walk in Love Team identifies some children in the community as “at risk.” An ‘at risk’ child is one who is living in an environment where their health, well being, or educational needs are not being met due to poverty. The WIL community center is run by an Aubree McClellend-Packard along with her local Tanzanian colleagues. The kids are given ‘A Better Chance’ at the WIL center where they receive free daycare, including nutritious meals, a safe and stimulating environment, nannies to care for them, health care when needed, and pre-school classes for the older children. The center takes children up to the age of 6, after which they will then be sponsored to attend a private school in Arusha up until sixth grade.
How does sponsorship work?
Monthly sponsors allow a child to be accepted into the WIL center where they will be given ‘A Better Chance.’ Your sponsored child will attend the WIL center every weekday from 9am - 5pm. Once your sponsored child reaches 6 and they are ready to attend Private School, you will be asked if you would like to continue supporting your child through the next chapter of their life. The first year of Private School is more expensive than the WIL center, therefore if you feel you cannot pay the full amount we will look to join your sponsorship with new sponsors in order to support the child through this first year of primary school. Sponsorships can be paid monthly or yearly.
Where does my money go?
While attending the WIL center children receive healthy, nutritious meals, encouragement to develop as a confident child, interaction with nannies, other children and overseas volunteers, medical attention if needed, formula for babies, a stimulating play environment and free pre-school classes to best prepare them for school. Your sponsorship is used to cover these costs for each child along with the general running costs of the center. As you can imagine the costs quickly add up. The WIL daycare strives to offer high quality daycare to the children who desperately need it the most. When your sponsored child reaches school age, your money will then go directly to cover the school fees. The school the children will attend is highly reputable and has been carefully chosen to provide the children with an excellent education that will give them head start to their future.
How much is sponsorship?
WIL daycare - $40 per month or $480 per year
Private school sponsorship - $50 per month or $600/year
If your child needs to attend boarding school you will be notified. You can choose to continue with the $50 per month or pay the full boarding school fees. If you choose to continue paying the $50 per month we will find other sponsor to cover the boarding costs.
If you feel you cannot sponsor the full amount then sponsorship can easily be shared between individuals, couples, groups.
Please note, an extra one time fee of $90 will be required at the beginning of each academic year to cover the extra needs of your sponsored child required by boarding schools (laundry soap/toiletries etc, a full breakdown of costs will be provided if boarding is chosen.) Our academic year starts in January.*
What do I get out of sponsoring a child?
By sponsoring a child through WIL’s ‘Believe in Me: A Better Chance’ sponsorship program, you will be supporting a child from as young as a newborn up until 18 years old. You will be a huge part of their life and will provide them with a life they would never imagine possible. Tanzania has the ability to work its way out of poverty and you will be helping the Country to do this, one human at a time. You will receive regular updates every 3 months. You will be welcomed and encouraged to come and spend some time in Tanzania at the WIL center to meet your sponsored child and their family members in person.

Meet Bryson!

Meet Joshua!
Joshua is a very healthy 4 month old despite the fact that when he first joined the WIL family him and his mother were living on a family members dirt floor. Since joining the WIL family in early February 2015, Joshua's mother has been able to get a job and they have moved into their own room! It is very small, made of mud and they still don't have even a bed to sleep in but Mama Joshua is determined to give her son a better life then what she had. Please help her to reach that goal by sponsoring Joshua to continue at the WIL Childhood Development Center and then school!
Meet Caren!
Caren is four years and lives with her mother and younger sibling. When we first met Caren's mother she was desperate to start up a business so she could keep her children in her home. Caren's mother applied for and received a small business loan and we agreed to take in Caren because there was no way for the mama to work with a small baby and a four year old. We have told the mama when Caren gets a sponsor we can take the baby into the center as well but we have to secure sponsorship for Caren first because she will need to attend school in the next two years. Caren has really come out of her shell since starting at the center. She is far more out going then we ever thought she the shy girl we met the first day would be!
Meet Elisha!
Elisha is a cuddly and independent three year old! He has always been a mama's boy and when he first started at the center at 6 months he would certainly cry if he was ever put down! Now at three years old he is very independent but still love his mama more then anyone else! Elisha;s mother is a single mother and works as a maid but that doesn't bring in much money to support her and Elisha. Mama Elisha is a part of our women empowerment group and never misses an opportunity to learn and grow.
Meet Nasra!
Nayra is the beautiful grand daughter to Agnes, our cook and all around helper! Agnes has been part of our women empowerment group since the very beginning. She had often told the group about her own struggles and the struggles of her teenage daughter. Her daughter got pregnant and has had to stay home with the baby and could not work. Agnes was the only one in the household, 5 children, that worked and was struggling to feed them all. We decided to hire on Agnes and told her to bring her granddaughter along. Now her daughter runs a small food business and is helping to support the family.
Meet Esperenza!
Esperenza is the daughter of Zuhura, a woman we sponsored to get a tumor removed this year. Once we got to know Zuhura we realized that her tumor was only one of her many troubles. She also had two children living in an orphanage because she could not afford to feed them or educate them. After Zuhura's surgery we helped her move into a house near the center and told her that we would help her take care of the children. She agreed and now they are a happy family!! WE do need a sponsor for Esperenze. She is 4 years old and has never attended school. She has a very happy disposition and loves to hang out will all the girls at WIL!
Special Needs Children
We do ask for a donation of $70 per month for a special needs child do to medical and staffing needs
Meet Dori!
I want to introduce you to little Miss Dori. Dori is 2 and a half year old and her mama brought her to the center because Dori can't walk. She scoots on her bottom to get around. Her arms and legs are so skinny and weak they cannot support her weight. We have accepted her into the center as an emergency placement and we are now looking for a sponsor. Mama Dori also has a 4 month old and does not have a job. She begs from neighbors to have enough money to pay rent and pay for food. Dori will need to see a specialist soon so we can determine why she cannot walk.
Meet Innocent!
Innocent is 4 years old and has cerebral palsy. He lives with his mother, two siblings, an aunt and two cousins in a one room mud house. The house they are renting has been sold and they could be evicted at any time. This is a huge stress to Mama Innocent who does not have money to relocate. We work with Innocent and his family as an outreach family at the moment. We do support the family by providing food and medical treatment for Innocent but our goal is to help relocate the family and bring Innocent into the center with a trained staff. If you are interested in sponsoring this family monthly or on a one time basis please email Aubree at walkinlovetanzaina@gmail.com.
